For the past few months, The Kid has been growing his hair out. He wants to have "metal music" hair. Within the past month, it has started to look like one hell of a mullet. I've been calling him Joe Dirt for about three weeks. The Husband has been fighting with him to at least get a trim, but The Kid refuses.
[Side story: my husband is bald. Like, his head is shiny. Several years ago, The Kid said he wanted to shave his head (buzz-cut) like his dad. He did, and his mom and grandparents called him "Cancer Kid" and made fun of him. He hasn't wanted to get a hair cut since.]
Until yesterday. The Kid waltzes in for his time with us and asks, "Can I go get a hair cut? I want to get a buzz cut."
After we picked our jaws up for the floor, we agreed. The Husband encouraged that maybe The Kid wait until the summer to get a buzz, since that would be a drastic haircut. He took him to the barber and The Kid asked for a "high and tight" cut.
He looks fabulous, and has received many many compliments since the cut.
Flash-forward to today. The Kid tells me Future Stepdad was having a conversation with him, and said, "It's so cool you're growing your hair long. Then we'll both have long hair. You'll look just like me."
The next day, The Kid demands a buzz cut. First words after the cut: "Dad, now I look just like you!"
I think some of my jealousy at Stepdad's easy transition into The Kid's life is starting to melt away. (Sharon, you were right!)

Love it! Bet that put a smile on dad's face :)
Your SS sounds just like mine. My Hubby is also bald,(by choice, kinda) and the Kid never wants a hair cut, even though his hair just grows straight out, so he looks like a puff ball. So this last time we just let his hair grow and grow, and finally he was BEGGING us to get his hair buzzes, to the point he let my Hubby do it. A little reverse psychology never hurt anyone!
